Environmental Advisor

Location: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
Position Type: Permanent, Full Time

Are you passionate about protecting the environment while helping deliver some of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure?

We are seeking an Environmental Advisor to join our Joint Venture team delivering a major 70km Overhead Line and Substation project. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a nationally important scheme that will support the UK's transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future.

Working alongside construction, engineering and environmental professionals, you will play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance, driving best practice and promoting a positive environmental culture across the project.

The Opportunity

As Environmental Advisor, you will support the Environmental Manager and project teams in delivering excellent environmental performance throughout the project lifecycle. You will help identify environmental risks, ensure compliance with legislative and planning requirements, and provide practical advice to operational teams working across complex construction activities.

This role offers significant variety, exposure to large-scale infrastructure delivery and the opportunity to be part of a collaborative team committed to leaving a positive legacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the Project Environmental Management Plan.
  • Monitor environmental performance across overhead line and substation construction activities.
  • Undertake environmental inspections and audits, identifying both good practice and areas for improvement.
  • Assist operational teams in understanding and complying with environmental requirements.
  • Monitor environmental risks and contribute to mitigation strategies and project risk registers.
  • Support compliance with planning consents, environmental permits and legislative obligations.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and support corrective actions and lessons learned.
  • Manage and review environmental monitoring data including noise, dust, waste and water management.
  • Support stakeholder engagement activities relating to environmental matters and community concerns.
  • Contribute to environmental reporting, performance metrics and sustainability initiatives.
  • Promote environmental awareness through coaching, training and engagement activities.
  • Support carbon reduction initiatives and project sustainability objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.

About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about the environment and enjoys working closely with construction teams in a fast-paced infrastructure environment. You will ideally have:

  • Experience in a similar Environmental Advisor, Environmental Coordinator or Environmental Officer role.
  • Experience working within construction, utilities, power transmission, energy, civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Good understanding of UK environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems, ideally ISO 14001.
  • Experience undertaking site inspections and environmental audits.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to influence teams and promote environmental best practice.
  • Excellent organisation and reporting skills.
  • A degree or qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
  • Membership of IEMA or a desire to work towards professional accreditation.
