Environmental Advisor

ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISOR

To assist the project Manager and Environmental Manager to provide professional environmental advice, to support effective delivery whilst meeting customer, legislative and regulatory requirements.

Maintain or attain SL SQEP role qualifications required for role, in particular covering Liquid Effluent Coordinator, Local Clearance Coordinator, Plant Solid Waste Coordinator and Dangerous Goods Dispatch Officer.

To be an integral part of the Project and to participate in appropriate EHS forums, interfacing with stakeholders, customers and regulators as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide environmental direction and liaison with team and contractors, including at project site induction briefs, line of site, stakeholder meetings etc.
  • Support the Environmental Manager in management of liquid effluent discharges, in particular through maintenance or attainment of Liquid Effluent Coordinator (LEC) capability.
  • Support the Environmental Manager in management of solid waste including duty of care inspections and oversight, liaison with waste contractors, SL waste advisors. Maintain or attain capability as:
    • Local Clearance Coordinator (LCC)
    • Plant Solid Waste Coordinator (PSWC)
    • Dangerous Goods Dispatch Officer (DGDO).
  • Provide pollution prevention support and guidance to team and contractors.
  • Support the SL Wildlife Officer with management of ecological aspects.
  • Support the Environmental Manager to collate environmental metrics data from site contractors.
  • Support the Environmental Manager to assess EHS risks in accordance with legislation and site policy & procedures. Where necessary document and produce technical reports in support of that advice.
  • Undertake inspections, observation and assurance activities to identify and highlight EHS performance gaps, determine root causes and corrective actions in order to improve EHS performance.
  • Support the Environmental Manager in the investigation of EHS incidents and events.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of relevant EHS legislation, site arrangements and standards.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the particular EHS hazards and associated controls within the Programme/Project/.
  • Work in compliance with Collaborative Management Plans and project environmental management plans (i.e. CEMP, LEMP, SWMP)
  • Support teams to understand EHS procedures and arrangements and implementation.

  • Degree in a relevant STEM subject or an equivalent level of qualifications and experience.
  • Relevant environmental qualification
  • Professional Qualifications - Working towards achieving ‘Preferred’. Professional Body (e.g. lEMA, IES)
  • Able to work in dynamic site environment on own and/or in support to other relevant team members.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to advise and influence work practices across the project to ensure work is carried out in accordance with current legislation and all relevant processes and procedures.
  • Lead by example, setting EHS standards, championing best practice and encouraging others to demonstrate appropriate EHS behaviours and promote a positive EHS culture in line with company, PPP and SL standards and expectations.
  • Working towards ‘preferred’. Current or historical experience of successfully undertaking SQEP roles of LEC, LCC, PSWC, DGDO.
