About the Role
As an Environmental Case Officer, you will play a key role in tackling waste mismanagement in HMOs across Coventry. You will carry out inspections, investigate complaints, gather evidence, interview witnesses and alleged offenders, and take enforcement action where necessary to secure compliance with legislation.
You will work directly with landlords, tenants, residents and partner agencies to resolve issues such as fly-tipping, accumulations of waste, vermin infestation, nuisance and anti-social behaviour arising from poor waste management practices. The role combines investigation, enforcement, problem solving and education, giving you the opportunity to improve neighbourhoods while helping landlords and tenants understand and meet their responsibilities.
No two days are the same. You may be carrying out inspections, preparing legal evidence, attending court, supporting multi-agency operations or providing advice to members of the public and elected members.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
