Environmental Compliance Manager
Position: Environmental Compliance Manager Location: Nottinghamshire (Hybrid) Industry: Energy Infrastructure and Storage
About
Our client is a dynamic powerhouse delivering grid-scale energy storage and power infrastructure across the UK. Backed by major infrastructure investors and scaling rapidly, our client is recruiting for a Compliance Manager to join on a permanent staff basis.
The Role
You will be managing all areas of our client’s environmental and regulatory compliance, engaging with stakeholders, and supporting the delivery of the company’s energy development projects.
- Report to the Development Director
- Work closely with the Operations Manager and Control Room team in Nottinghamshire
- Collaborate with the wider development and construction team in Merseyside
- Ensure permitting and compliance considerations for new projects
Responsibilities
Core Accountabilities
- Main accountability: Managing the company’s obligations under the MCPD and UKETS framework
Compliance & Reporting
- Conduct monthly internal tracking/reporting
- Address metering issues with the Control Room
- Arrange and review tendering from external independent auditors
- Prepare end-of-year reporting packs for external auditors (meter data, photos, spreadsheets, QA documents)
- Manage audit improvement actions, including submitting necessary permit variations via Environment Agency portals
- Enter and track annual activity data via Environment Agency portals
- Manage annual subsistence charging in conjunction with the Finance team
- Provide forecasting to the Finance team to procure UKAs (UK Air Quality Directive registrations) from the Registry

Project & Permitting Support
- Assist with new Permit applications and Permit Variations for sites, in conjunction with external consultants
- Track ongoing emissions monitoring requirements per site
- Engage with the Environment Agency for emissions compliance reporting
- Schedule emissions monitoring with contractors and the Control Room, attending activities as needed
Environmental Management
- Manage and update the company’s Environmental Management System under the permitting regime
- Oversee compliance activities for existing sites and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects
- Proactively engage with industry workgroups and consultations to stay ahead

Additional Support
- May assist the Development Director with Capacity Market administration, including:
- Annual prequalification
- Ongoing agreement management (Experience in this role is desirable but not essential.)
Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Skills
✔ Degree (or equivalent) in environmental science or a related field ✔ Strong working knowledge of the:
- UK energy/power generation industry
- Compliance requirements for peaking power and battery energy storage ✔ Excellent written and verbal communication skills ✔ Ability to coordinate travel, manage workloads, and prioritise effectively ✔ Stakeholder engagement skills with external partners ✔ Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to applications and reports ✔ Proven experience in a:
- Similar role as a Compliance Manager
- Or within a government regulator or independent auditing company ✔ Full driving licence required (due to travel to office and project sites)
Advantageous: ✔ Knowledge of industry fire and drainage requirements
