Environmental Compliance Manager
Our team is seeking an Environmental Compliance Manager who will support and drive environmental operational excellence across our Operations in the United Kingdom. They will also provide technical support at our existing operations and future expansion across the UK. This role will report to the UK&IE Environmental Leader through the Environmental Assurance and Protection (EAP) team.
The Environmental Compliance Manager will partner with the operations leadership teams to execute company environmental procedures and ensure compliance with all applicable UK national and local regulations. Utilizing risk assessments and compliance evaluations, this individual will lead site-specific and regional continuous improvement initiatives to minimize environmental aspects and impacts and communicate and implement best practices. They must be able to lead a team to ensure success for business support. This role entails up to 50% travel to multiple sites across the UK.
Responsibilities
- Manage and execute multi-site responsibilities to comply with air emissions, stormwater, waste, wastewater and other environmental related laws, regulations and permits. This includes required UK national and local reporting.
- Participate in the development, introduction, control, improvement and application of environmental management control systems, procedures, processes and products.
- Measure and analyze sites' performance against published requirements in environmental policies. For all deficiencies, identify a plan for the site to implement and fix all identified deficiencies.
- Cooperate with UK environmental authorities and in the implementation of any notification, permission and approval procedures according to UK environmental law (water/waste water, pollution control, waste, energy).
- Participate in the annual data collection and reporting (internal, external) as well as controls (measurements, reviews) on environmentally relevant issues.
Key job responsibilities
- You will manage environmental risk program(s) and/or projects, where the risk is defined, but the business problem and solution may not be defined.
- You will be the environmental subject matter expert for your area; up to date on related industry trends (e.g., changing regulations, innovations in risk mitigation, testing mechanisms), knowing how to apply them across teams, and when not to.
- You will drive goals and regulation-based control outcomes and/or risk reduction, informing/helping to establish mechanisms where applicable to bring risk within tolerance levels.
- You manage overall schedules for your environmental risk mitigation projects, overcome issues, and keep the scope of effort under control.
- You will also manage a minimum of 6 waste coordinators based out of UK operational sites who oversee the hazardous waste management and elements of environmental site management.

A day in the life
Every day will be different. You will be visiting multiple Operations locations, of which all have slight differences. You will be engaging with your senior stakeholders and ensuring the sites and the business as a whole are set up to deliver effective environmental compliance. You will work across multiple teams in Amazon that each play a part in ensuring environmental compliance. You will be comfortable with a dynamic organization, where agility to move focus and priorities based on business risk is essential in this role.
About The Team
The EU EAP team is responsible for all Environmental Compliance in Europe. We have an exciting opportunity to own one of the most interesting and complex regions of our network, as you cover three countries and various different types of sites. This is a chance to really make your mark and demonstrate how environmental compliance can make a positive impact to the business. As a team we are learning fast and looking for ways to Simplify, Sustain and Scale Environmental Compliance in Europe.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience with all Microsoft Office applications
- A completed Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, chemical, environmental), environmental science, sustainability, environmental management, natural sciences, or another relevant discipline.
- 4+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience.
- Experience using in depth knowledge of EU environmental regulations, through to country and local environmental regulations.
- Experience diving deep with multiple stakeholders (engineering, legal, public policy, procurement, safety) to understand operations processes

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in relevant industries such as law, customer service, investigations, risk, compliance or project management
- Experience implementing scalable compliance solutions (technology, procedures, processes, etc.) in a regulated environment
- Master's Degree in civil, chemical or environmental engineering or related field of engineering or science study.
- Project Management Professional (PMP), Agile or equivalent certification.
