Circa £43,335 (£35,521 base + 22% Shift Allowance)

Are you passionate about environmental protection? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment? Join us as an Environmental Control Technician (ECT), where you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding our environment while supporting critical operations around the clock.


What will you be doing?

As an Environmental Control Technician, you will be at the forefront of environmental risk management, operating within our 24/7 control room. Your mission: protect the environment by monitoring, assessing, and managing potential pollution events, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and driving positive outcomes for both the company and the community.

You will work closely with Operational Control Managers and Environmental Protection Technicians to:

  • Risk assess and triage environmental alerts.
  • Implement mitigation solutions to manage pollution risks.
  • Maintain ongoing ownership of events until resolution.
  • Escalate issues as necessary while keeping regulatory agencies updated.
  • Liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders during pressured events

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess potential pollution events, identify mitigation strategies, and deploy appropriate resources.
  • Capture evidence of environmental impact and mitigation efficacy.
  • Ensure timely communication and reports to the Environment Agency (EA).
  • Manage out-of-hours (OOH) mailboxes and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  • Coordinate tankering and jetting operations (OOH).
  • Support compliance failure risk management (OOH).
  • Conduct early detection and triage of environmental alerts during OOH periods.
  • Update risk management systems and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist ETTs and OCMs with their workloads and provide support during incident management.

What skills & experience do I need to be successful?

We seek proactive, detail-oriented individuals with:

  • A strong commitment to environmental stewardship.
  • Excellent problem-solving and risk-assessment skills in pressured environments.
  • Ability to work effectively in a 24/7 shift pattern including standby shifts.
  • Strong communication and coordination abilities.
