LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide for employee engagement, and we’re equally proud of our strong Glassdoor score — reflecting how much our people love working here.

Join us to make a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

Are you eager to make a real difference in our river communities? Do you have a knack for forging strong connections and communicating with a variety of stakeholders?

Join us in a dynamic and pivotal role within the Severn Trent environmental communications team, where you will have the opportunity to shape and drive our communications and engagement strategy for River Communities, aligning with our industry leading Get River Positive commitments and environmental initiatives.

As a key player, you’ll forge strong relationships with diverse community groups and activist organisations, magnifying our engagement efforts around designated Bathing Water locations and high-amenity wild water locations across our region.

Your efforts will drive high quality engagement with all river users, ensuring our initiatives resonate deeply and effectively.

This role offers a unique blend of creativity, leadership, and community involvement. If you're ready to make waves and leave a lasting impact, we want to hear from you!

You’ll be based at our Head Office in Coventry, with very frequent travel to Shropshire.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Role Objectives

  • The role will specialise in building relationships with river leisure groups, river community groups, local and regional campaign and activist groups as well as the communities around official designated (Bathing Water) locations and those with high amenity value.
  • You will coordinate seamlessly across our organisation, ensuring our field-based teams, including River Rangers and the Education Team, effectively reach and engage with river communities and stakeholders.
  • Your efforts will educate, inform, and inspire them about our dedicated work and commitment to enhancing their local environments.
  • As a vital component of the Get River Positive Communications and Engagement workstream, you will play a vital role in the Shropshire and broader bathing water designation capital delivery program.
  • Your focus will be on fostering stakeholder engagement, ensuring alignment with our overarching narrative.
  • Collaborate closely with our Community Communications team to synchronise efforts and support the capital projects under the Bathing Rivers initiative.
  • You will develop the key communications and engagement plan around our approach to bathing waters or high amenity locations, taking into consideration any outcome from the DEFRA consultation.
  • Your work will include devising and implementing an engagement strategy with communities and activist organisations.
  • You will share insight from communities, activists and river users back into the Get River Positive Comms Group in a timely way to inform further work, tactical plans and strategies.
  • You will spearhead the development and execution of communication and engagement strategies to optimise the impact of our River Rangers, ensuring their activities are seamlessly integrated with the overarching Get River Positive engagement approach.
  • This will involve enhancing their skills in community organising and establishing clear goals and objectives to guide their efforts effectively.
  • Collaborating closely with the Get River Positive Communications Manager, you will be instrumental in developing, managing, and nurturing key relationships with affiliated bodies such as the Clean Water Sports Alliance and its coalition member organisations.
  • This initiative will complement our efforts surrounding the GRP Pledge 2 commitments.
  • As an integral part of our Pledge 2 (Create more opportunities for everyone to enjoy our regions’ rivers) engagement strategy, you will collaborate with our Visitor Experience Team to ensure our commitment to enhancing open access to our reservoirs for recreational activities such as triathlons and open water swimming is met effectively.
  • You will manage a wide range of internal stakeholders including Business Leads across Capital Delivery, River Protection and across the Communications SMT.
  • Ensuring a single brand strategy throughout all our communication channels.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
