About the Role

We're seeking environmental engineering specialists to train and enhance AI models through technical expertise—spanning water treatment, air quality, and hazardous waste remediation. Your deep domain knowledge will directly shape how AI resolves real-world environmental challenges.

This is a unique opportunity to pioneer work at the intersection of environmental science and AI, influencing some of the most advanced language models being developed today.

Alignerr Type: Hourly Contract Location: Remote Commitment: 10–40 hours/week


What You’ll Do

The role involves:

  • Designing advanced environmental engineering scenarios to test AI reasoning through:

    • Contaminant transport and dispersion modelling
    • Mass balance in treatment plants
    • Hydrology-based challenges
    • Life Cycle Assessments (LCA)
  • Creating high-fidelity “golden standards” by: -Writing rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions (e.g., chemical dosage, flow dynamics, pollutant models)

  • Evaluating AI outputs for technical accuracy, including:

    • Environmental impact statements
    • Remediation plans
    • Mathematical proofs
    • Regulatory compliance (EPA, ISO 14001)
    • Safety and risk mitigations
  • Improving model logic and reasoning by:

    • Identifying errors in stoichiometric calculations
    • Rectifying overlooked secondary environmental impacts
    • Providing structured, actionable feedback
  • Independent task execution with full flexibility on scheduling


Who You Are

Core Requirements

  • Holding or pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (environmental focus), or related domains
  • Core expertise in at least one specialty:
    • Aquatic chemistry
    • Wastewater treatment design (e.g., activated sludge systems)
    • Air quality modelling (e.g., PM2.5/NOx dispersion)
    • Hazardous waste remediation (permitting, treatment technologies)
  • Ability to articulate complex engineering principles in clear, precise writing
  • Attention to detail (critical for unit conversions, chemical equations, design codes)
  • Self-starter who thrives with autonomy on structured tasks

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with data annotation, QA, or evaluation workflows
  • Proficiency in environmental modelling tools (e.g., AERMOD, SWMM, GoldSim, USGS’s MODFLOW)
  • Background in EHS/OSHA compliance or environmental impact assessments (EIA)
