Environmental Health Officer – Food, Health & Safety & Animal Licensing

Environmental Health Officer – Full-Time Position

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative individual to perform the full range of day-to-day duties as an Environmental Health Officer (EHO), ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and Council policies. The role is vital in maintaining and improving environmental conditions to enhance public health.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide a high-quality public, business, and internal service, supporting the Environmental Health Section’s objectives. Duties include:

  • Conducting food safety and health and safety inspections in compliance with regulations.
  • Assisting with inspections and audits within the beauty industry, including massage parlours and other specialised treatments.
  • Investigating environmental protection concerns and responding to service requests.
  • Undertaking training to enable licensed animal establishment inspections.
  • Analysing complex information and making informed decisions, often involving conflicting priorities while keeping up-to-date with current legislation, policies, and technical developments.

Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • A Demonstrable record of relevant experience in:
    • Food safety
    • Health and safety at work
  • A qualification at Diploma or Degree level in Environmental Health (or equivalent).
  • CIEH Certificate of Registration or progress toward it.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations effectively, achieving positive outcomes.
  • Must be a self-motivated team player, able to work collaboratively.
  • Must demonstrate high self-direction and the ability to operate independently with a risk-based approach.

Professional Registration

  • Preference for candidates who have obtained a Degree in Environmental Health and achieved professional registration.
  • Consideration given to nearly qualified applicants or those in the process of completing the EHORB registration.
