What to Expect in the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated person, preferably with experience in Environmental Health, particularly in Environmental Protection and Waste Enforcement. This role sits primarily within the Environmental Protection Team, focusing on waste enforcement matters while potentially covering a wide range of Environmental Health functions.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Responding to complaints/enquiries related to general environmental health, including:

    • Flytipping and waste
    • Noise
    • Pollution (air, land, water)
    • Drainage
    • Public health burials
  • Supporting and completing environmental health monitoring and inspection programmes, while managing necessary follow-up actions.

  • Assisting Environmental and Operational Services Officers and the Council’s contractors in:

    • Gathering evidence (e.g., photos, analyses).
    • Writing witness statements for waste investigations.
  • Serving legal notices, including:

    • Enforcement notices
    • Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) for waste-related offences.
    • Conducting PACE interviews (where relevant).
    • Preparing case files for potential court prosecution proceedings.
    • Attending court to present evidence in alignment with council policies and procedures.
  • Conducting investigations (routine or as needed) to collect evidence, follow up on cases, write correspondence, serve notices, or present testimony when necessary.
