Environmental Manager

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Environmental Manager to join our team on the Great Grid Upgrade framework, working in partnership with National Grid to support the delivery of a diverse portfolio of high-profile schemes. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to further develop their expertise and take on increasing responsibility within a dynamic and forward-thinking environment.
Role Responsibilities
- Deliver environmental advice and guidance at all levels to minimise risk to the company.
- Assist with developing and implementing environmental elements of the Integrated Management System (IMS), including documentation to maintain ISO14001 certification.
- Support the development of environmental strategy and management action plans aligned with corporate requirements.
- Lead and conduct inspections, audits, and investigations; report findings and implement improvements.
- Collaborate with the Environmental Manager on IMS development and ISO14001 documentation.
- Participate in the advisory team; monitor and review performance to meet current and future business needs.
- Contribute to pre-contract and work-winning activities within the business unit.
- Review compliance with environmental management systems, plans, and legislation through internal and external audits.
- Identify and promote environmental best practices across the business unit; share lessons learned.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and industry practices.
- Provide input to corporate strategy and local action plans to ensure environmental compliance.
- Consult with customer personnel on environmental matters and promote best practice solutions.
- Lead the use of company performance measurement tools; ensure accurate data capture at project and business unit levels.
- Assist in training staff, operatives, and subcontractors to ensure legal compliance with environmental procedures and controls.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment across projects, sites, or operational areas.
- Strong management skills with the ability to self-motivate and inspire colleagues.
- Excellent planning and time management; able to manage multiple tasks without compromising quality.
- Proven ability to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
- Collaborative approach to enhancing project and operational performance.
- Solid understanding of construction practices and industry standards.
- Specialist knowledge in a relevant technical or environmental field.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in a related subject.
- Practitioner-level member of IEMA (PIEMA), actively working toward Chartered status.
- Holder of recognised internal auditing qualifications.
- In-depth understanding of corporate strategy, values, and objectives.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ISO14001 Environmental Management System and its practical implementation.
- Demonstrable experience in a similar environmental or compliance-focused role.

About The Energy Business Unit
We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
