Senior Environmental and Consenting Expert – Principal/Associate Technical Director (Design & Build)

Arcadis, the world’s leading sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy firm, is seeking a Principal/Associate Technical Director to lead our Environmental Planning team in the Design & Build (D&B) sector.

Our global team of 36,000+ professionals spans 70+ countries and remains committed to improving quality of life through innovative, sustainable solutions. This role offers the opportunity to drive meaningful environmental outcomes across complex projects—from protected species and pollution management to air quality, noise, and surface-water strategies—in some of the world’s most dynamic locations.

We address pressing global challenges—such as climate change, urbanization, and biodiversity loss—by delivering solutions that safeguard natural and built assets for future generations.

Role Accountabilities

You will lead environmental and consenting strategies across a diverse portfolio of projects, including:

  • Large-scale infrastructure & energy projects
  • Highways, rail, water, and mixed-use developments
  • Public realm & masterplanning programmes
  • Small- to medium-scale projects requiring agile excellence

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Project leadership: Coordinating multi-disciplinary teams on environmental and planning deliverables, ensuring alignment with D&B processes and optimal client outcomes.
  • Business development: Identifying new D&B opportunities, forging strategic partnerships across schemes, and expanding our client portfolio.
  • Relationship management: Representing Arcadis in key client engagements, fostering cross-selling opportunities and broadening our market reach.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Collaborating with consultees, regulators, and authorities to effectively manage consenting strategies.
  • Operational oversight: Managing projects end-to-end, ensuring technical, commercial, quality, and safety standards are met.
  • Knowledge sharing: Working with Arcadis Global Business teams to enhance capabilities and digital innovation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
