Senior Environmental and Consenting Expert – Principal/Associate Technical Director (Design & Build)
Arcadis, the world’s leading sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy firm, is seeking a Principal/Associate Technical Director to lead our Environmental Planning team in the Design & Build (D&B) sector.

Role Accountabilities
You will lead environmental and consenting strategies across a diverse portfolio of projects, including:
- Large-scale infrastructure & energy projects
- Highways, rail, water, and mixed-use developments
- Public realm & masterplanning programmes
- Small- to medium-scale projects requiring agile excellence
Your responsibilities will include:
- Project leadership: Coordinating multi-disciplinary teams on environmental and planning deliverables, ensuring alignment with D&B processes and optimal client outcomes.
- Business development: Identifying new D&B opportunities, forging strategic partnerships across schemes, and expanding our client portfolio.
- Relationship management: Representing Arcadis in key client engagements, fostering cross-selling opportunities and broadening our market reach.
- Stakeholder engagement: Collaborating with consultees, regulators, and authorities to effectively manage consenting strategies.
- Operational oversight: Managing projects end-to-end, ensuring technical, commercial, quality, and safety standards are met.
- Knowledge sharing: Working with Arcadis Global Business teams to enhance capabilities and digital innovation.

Qualifications & Experience Required
- Proven track record in consenting, environmental management, and D&B sector delivery, demonstrated through successful project leadership.
- Technical expertise in:
- Environmental impact assessment (EIA) techniques, procedures, and case law
- Corporate sustainability strategies within design-build frameworks
- Contractor collaboration experience, with a focus on influencing sustainable design outcomes.
- Cross-sector experience planning complex projects across infrastructure, development, and public realm sectors.
- Commercial acumen, including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance.
- Presentation and communication skills, with expertise in reporting, team review, and stakeholder consultation.
- Accreditation preferred (e.g., chartered status or advanced professional qualifications in environmental science, planning, or sustainability).
- ** Profesional credentials not essential**: but a flexible, collaborative, and pragmatic approach to solving challenges is vital.
