Job Introduction

At Tarmac, who you are matters. We are currently looking for an experienced and motivated Environmental Monitoring Manager to join our Land and Natural Resources team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in ensuring our environmental monitoring activities are delivered to the highest standards across our UK operations.

As the Environmental Monitoring Manager, you will lead a nationally dispersed team of environmental monitoring professionals, overseeing the collection, management and reporting of environmental data. Working closely with operational teams, regulators and specialist contractors, you will ensure monitoring programmes meet planning permissions, environmental permits, operating licences and regulatory requirements, while driving best practice and continuous improvement across the business.

What You'll Be Doing

As Environmental Monitoring Manager, you will provide leadership, technical expertise and strategic oversight for environmental monitoring activities across Tarmac's operations. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and developing a team of Environmental Monitoring Technicians and a Data Management Technician, creating a positive, high-performing and safety-focused culture
  • Managing the collection, validation and reporting of environmental monitoring data, ensuring information is accurate, complete and recorded within company monitoring systems
  • Ensuring environmental reports and regulatory submissions are produced and delivered in line with statutory timescales
  • Developing and implementing monitoring programmes that meet operational, permitting and compliance requirements
  • Reviewing monitoring protocols and standards to ensure alignment with industry best practice and regulatory guidance
  • Managing and auditing external monitoring contractors and laboratory partners to ensure quality, consistency and value for money
  • Overseeing the maintenance and performance of monitoring equipment, ensuring compliance with manufacturer recommendations and operational requirements
  • Leading the production and submission of annual environmental reports for permitted landfill operations
  • Investigating monitoring-related permit non-compliances and coordinating timely corrective actions
  • Managing monitoring budgets and ensuring costs are appropriately tracked and allocated
  • Maintaining safe systems of work, risk assessments and monitoring procedures that support the highest levels of health, safety and environmental compliance
  • Building strong relationships with site managers, operational teams, permitting specialists, regulators, consultants and other key stakeholders to ensure successful environmental outcomes

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
