Environmental Project Support Trainee

Overview

Our client is seeking an Environmental Project Support Trainee to join an 8-week, full-time paid placement based in Swindon.

This opportunity is designed for early-career candidates who are interested in sustainability, environmental improvement, procurement, and the journey to net zero. The placement offers practical experience within a corporate sustainability team, supporting workstreams focused on emissions reduction, sustainable procurement, waste, travel, change management, and digital operations.

The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in sustainable procurement practices, desk-based research, stakeholder engagement, and data analysis. This is an excellent opportunity to develop employability skills, build sector knowledge, and contribute to meaningful sustainability-focused work.

The role will initially be office-based in Swindon five days per week. There may be an opportunity for hybrid working later in the placement, depending on business needs.

Responsibilities

As an Environmental Project Support Trainee, you will:

  • Work with live or recent tender examples to create case studies and demonstrations showing how procurement can support sustainability goals
  • Carry out primarily desk-based research on sustainable supply chain policies
  • Summarise research findings for presentation to internal stakeholders
  • Support benchmarking activity by comparing sustainable supply chain approaches used by similar organisations
  • Assist with data collection and analysis relating to procurement spend, supplier sustainability information, or carbon impacts, where appropriate
  • Attend team meetings and stakeholder discussions to develop insight into procurement operations and sustainability priorities
  • Contribute to innovative work in sustainable procurement, an area that continues to develop across many sectors
  • Gain exposure to wider organisational sustainability work and environmental improvement initiatives

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
