Join NRS at Dounreay as an Environmental Specialist and play a critical role in delivering one of the UK’s most important site restoration programmes. You’ll support environmental closure, remediation, and demolition activities, applying robust standards, analyzing data, and producing technical documentation. Working closely with project teams and stakeholders, you’ll help ensure safe, efficient progress towards full site clean-up and closure.
About the Role
Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) is seeking a skilled and motivated Environmental Specialist to support the delivery of the Dounreay environmental closure and demolition programme.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the UK’s most significant nuclear decommissioning and site restoration projects, playing a key role in ensuring safe, compliant, and effective environmental management throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
As an Environmental Specialist with NRS Dounreay, you will:
- Implement the environmental management processes & standards, within the Dounreay Integrated Management System, that are appropriate to deliver the environmental characterisation, remediation, and restoration requirements.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to expedite efficient, safe project delivery.
- Deliver the integrated site clean-up and closure programme to achieve IES.
- Support the project manager in the day-to-day delivery of tasks and problem solving.
- Produce, model, interpret, and report environmental data sets.
- Write and review technical reports, documentation, and assessments.
- Perform the responsibilities of Authorisations relevant to the post.

About You
We are looking for individuals who:
- Have an HND or Degree in Engineering/Scientific or equivalent qualifications.
- Have experience in environmental management, consultancy, or related technical disciplines.
- Have a relevant academic background.
- Are confident working with environmental data and technical reporting.
- Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Can effectively engage with a range of stakeholders.
- Are committed to safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
- Have experience within regulated or high-hazard industries (desirable but not essential).
