Environmental Support & Enforcement Officer
Environmental Enforcement Officer – WISE (BCP Council)
Location: Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Pay Rate: £14 per hour
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (including occasional weekends)
About the Role
We’re seeking confident, professional individuals to join our front-line Environmental Enforcement team. In this role, you’ll spend your working day on foot patrol, identifying environmental offences, and issuing Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to members of the public.

Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement (WISE) works with local authorities across the UK to combat environmental crime, including:
- Littering
- Fly-tipping
- Dog fouling
- Duty of care offences
WISE delivers visible, fair and effective enforcement through trained officers and modern technology, helping ensure that boroughs remain clean and safe.

A Day in the Life
Your typical shift could include:

Patrols across high-footfall areas such as:
- Busy town centres
- Local residential streets

Patrol & enforcement tasks:
- Observing public behaviour and identifying offences
- Confidently approaching offenders to discuss violations and issue Fixed Penalty Notices
- Educating the public on environmental responsibilities

Recording and reporting:
- Accurately documenting evidence, statements, and violations
- Maintaining compliance with team procedures
Key qualities for the role: ✔ Strong communication and confidence ✔ Professionalism under pressure ✔ Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
The role involves regular public engagement while maintaining an independent yet collaborative working environment.
What We’re Looking For
We’re searching for individuals who demonstrate:
- Strong communication skills and a confident, professional approach
- Resilience to handle challenging public interactions with calm authority
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Basic IT skills (reporting and documentation)
- Reliability, proactiveness, and attention to detail
- Flexibility to follow procedures independently
- (Preferred but not essential:) Valid driver’s licence

What We Offer
- Permanent contract at £14 per hour
- Full-time hours: 40 per week (Mon–Sun, shifts 8am–6pm)
