Environmental Enforcement Officer – Wandsworth Council
Location: Wandsworth Pay: £14.80 per hour Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (including occasional weekends coverage)
About The Role
We’re recruiting confident, professional individuals to join our team as Environmental Enforcement Officers. This is a front-line, on-the-ground role where you’ll spend most of your day on foot patrol, identifying environmental offences, and issuing Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to members of the public.

A Day in the Life
A typical shift includes:
- On-foot patrols across town centres, high-footfall areas, and residential streets
- Observing public behaviour to spot offences such as:
- Littering
- Dog fouling
- Fly-tipping
- Approaching offenders with confidence and professionalism to explain violations
- Issuing FPNs and educating the public on environmental responsibilities
- Accurately documenting interactions, statements, and evidence using provided systems
Key attributes: Your role will demand:

Requirements
Essential
- Strong communication skills and a calm, authoritative presence
- Ability to handle challenging conversations in a professional manner
- Weather-appropriate comfort for outdoor work
- Basic IT skills (specifically report writing)
- Reliability, proactivity, and a detail-oriented attitude
- Ability to work independently while adhering to procedures

What We Offer
- Base rate: £14.80 per hour
- Full-time permanent contract, 40 hours/week
- Flexible shifts covering Monday to Sunday (8am–6pm)
- 28 days’ annual leave (including bank holidays)
