Environmental Sustainability Manager
About the Role
To lead the implementation of the Building New Futures strategy across a portfolio of projects or a major programme, ensuring compliance, performance, and innovation. This role provides strategic guidance, manages teams, and embeds sustainability into operational delivery and decision-making.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Promote a positive environmental culture through proactive engagement and communications with:
- Project teams
- Supply chain
- Clients
- Statutory bodies
- Act as the point of contact between:
- Delivery team
- Clients
- Regulatory authorities
- Investigate environmental incidents and manual risk events in accordance with Balfour Beatty standards to identify and share lessons learned.
- Manage complex environmental risks and opportunities, supporting project teams in:
- Developing and maintaining robust environmental and sustainability plans
- Direct and support the preparation of:
- Consents, licences, and permits
- Ensure legal and contractual compliance
- Oversee and provide expert advice on project-level environmental compliance
- Deliver monthly environmental performance and compliance reporting to:
- Internal and client stakeholders
- Maintain data integrity in the Sustainability Portal
- Develop and deliver targeted training and education plans for:
- Project teams
- Supply chain

Who We’re Looking For
- Environmental Degree or related discipline (preferred) OR:
- NEBOSH Environmental Diploma OR IEMA Certificate
- Chartered Environmentalist (preferred)
- Relevant CSCS Card
- Full clean UK driving licence
- Practical application of managing environmental risk and opportunity
- Advanced understanding of:
- Environmental legislation
- Management systems
- Understanding of environmental impacts of construction and infrastructure activities
- Detailed knowledge of:
- Sustainability KPIs
- Performance metrics
