Overview
We are seeking a Environmental Test Engineer to plan, lead, and execute environmental testing and qualification activities across defence and aerospace programmes. The role is hands-on and focused on translating real operational environments into credible, defensible test evidence.
Responsibilities
- Develop environmental test strategies working with cross-functional teams to mitigate risk
- Derive and justify test severities from operational and lifecycle environments
- Plan, execute, and witness environmental test campaigns (in-house and external)
- Develop test procedures, plans, reports, and qualification evidence packs
- Design and build of mechanical test rigs
- Specify instrumentation, data acquisition, and test setups
- Manage test deviations, failures, and re-test activities
Requirements
- Strong understanding of environmental testing principles
- Experience planning and running structured test programmes
- Experience processing and analysing test data (e.g. MATLAB/Python or equivalent tools)
- Ability to produce clear, defensible technical documentation
- Comfortable working in fast-moving development environments

Preferred Qualifications/Experience
- Experience in fast-paced R&D or startup environments, with rapid prototype iteration times
- Defence or aerospace industry experience
- Exposure to environmental standards (e.g. DEF STAN 00-035, MIL-STD-810, STANAG’s)
- CAD experience (Siemens NX or Solidworks) - desirable but not essential
- Good grounding in instrumentation and data acquisition systems
- Experience working with external test houses
- Ability to gain UK Security Clearance (not required at application stage)
