Metrology Equipment Engineer
About the Role
This is a key member of the Engineering team, responsible for improving, sustaining, and troubleshooting Metrology equipment. This role covers ownership of critical tools to drive availability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities

Ownership of site metrology equipment toolset
- Initially under guidance of existing tool owners
- Own and publish recovery plans for tool sets down for > 24 hours
- Provide innovative, cost-effective technical solutions for equipment issues and recoveries

Process and performance improvement
- Approve and critique detailed technical procedures for:
- Equipment Preventative Maintenance (PMs)
- Tool operation
- Online Condition And Performance Monitoring System (OCAPS)
- Conduct weekly reporting of key tool indexes (Overall Equipment Effectiveness - OEE, Availability, PM KPIs)
- Drive improvement through baseline performance analysis and cross-functional projects with:
- Process teams
- Integration and Research & Development (R&D)
- Vendors
- Approve and critique detailed technical procedures for:

Tool investment and implementation
- Assist with new product integration requiring tool modification or setup
- Develop cross-tool type capability (tool matching) and capability knowledge
- Find innovative obsolescence solutions for electronic/mechanical systems

Maintenance and efficiency optimisation
- Review all scheduled maintenance activities through PROMIS TMS
- Improve efficiency of maintenance processes

Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste within tool operations:
- Extend Preventative Maintenance (PM) intervals
- Simplify processes
- Reduce qualification reductions
- Take full ownership of 6S disciplines on tool and storage areas
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste within tool operations:

Tool installation and coordination
- Own tool start-up process from purchase to release and Tier2 tool installations
- Develop detailed understanding of tool facilities requirements
- Coordinate with Process team and Equipment experts during installations
Requirements
Qualifications & Education
- Degree/Higher National Diploma (HND) in a Scientific discipline (Preferred)

- Ability to work under pressure and deliver under tight deadlines
- Drive a root cause analysis culture and find innovative solutions
- Experience repairing, upgrading, and developing older technology systems
- Flexibility to work variable hours as required
- Strong teamwork and collaborative abilities, in addition to leadership and empowerment of peers
- Excellent communication skills
- Customer-focused mindset

Technical Familiarity
- Deep understanding of wafer fabrication / semiconductor manufacturing systems
- Knowledge of contemporary manufacturing principles, such as:
- Just-in-Time (JIT)
- Kaizen (continuous improvement)
- Zero Defects
- Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Total Quality Management (TQM)
- Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
