Equipment Engineering Technician

Electronics Equipment Technician

Location: Bedford, UK Department: Equipment Engineering


Basic Purpose: Performs and coordinates the repair of machinery used in semiconductor processing, interfacing with the Equipment Engineering Supervisor, Manufacturing Manager, and Plant Manager, while working alternate early and late shifts to maintain a 24x7 manufacturing environment.


Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Maintain >80% uptime of key process tools
  • Fault-find and repair complex machine tool PCBs to component level
  • Provide direction to technician-level personnel and support:
    • Manufacturing Shift Leaders
    • Manufacturing support personnel
  • Sustain, evaluate, and improve uptimes of wafer fab processing equipment
  • Communicate with:
    • EE Supervisor
    • Process Engineers
    • Process Operators
  • Identify and implement cost reduction projects
  • Maintain a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure safe performance of duties (self and others)

  • Strong team player

Communication:

Oral:

  • Excellent verbal skills to convey:
    • Work instructions
    • Fault characteristics
    • Diagnosis to all level of employees, onsite engineering support, and OEM tool suppliers.

Written:

  • Excellent written skills to issue:
    • Work instructions
    • Ideas, concepts, and solutions via email, memos, graphs, or charts to employees, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Scheduling & Planning:

  • Assists in planning and scheduling of assigned project activities
  • Involved in short-term and long-range planning activities

Basic Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Minimum HNC/HND from an accredited college/university in:
    • Engineering
    • Science
    • Mathematics
    • Material Science or equivalent education/training/experience.

Training & Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform outlined functions, combined with:
    • Progressive engineering experience
    • Proven capability to support, sustain, and drive Continuous Improvement initiatives

  • Preferred:
    • Knowledge of wafer fab processes within semiconductor/cleanroom environments
  • Required:
    • Diagnose and repair PCBs to component level
    • Excellent problem-solving skills
    • Electronics background with fault-finding skills to component level
  • Preferred (but not essential):
    • Experience repairing Epitaxy, Ion implant, and Passivation process equipment
  • Soft Skills:
    • Document processes and procedures for information retention and sharing
    • Work effectively with equipment suppliers, subcontractors, and service engineers

Other Skills:

  • Experience with 6S/Kaizen preferred
  • Proven track record of fixing complex machines
  • Prepared to conduct:
    • Mechanical setup
    • Maintenance work
  • Experience with acid-based tools, including:
    • Replacing valves and pumps in chemical dispense systems
  • Excellent time management & organizational skills
  • Capable of managing work/deliverables with minimal supervision
    • Detail-oriented
    • Performs well under pressure
    • Flexible team player, able to work alternate early and late shifts
  • Good computer literacy
