At OQC, we aren't just theorising about the future; we're building it. Born from a philosophy of bold innovation, we've successfully transitioned quantum computing from an academic dream into a commercial reality.
The most exciting thing is that we're just getting started and we've recently closed our £260 million Series C funding round - the largest fundraise ever completed by a quantum computing company in Europe.
The Purpose
As an Equipment Project Engineer, you'll play a critical role in bringing world-leading quantum computing facilities to life.
Acting as the bridge between facility design and operational readiness, you'll ensure complex scientific equipment is successfully integrated into cutting-edge laboratories, cleanrooms and technical workspaces.
Your work will directly enable the deployment of the infrastructure powering the next generation of quantum technology.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced project engineer to lead the planning, specification and delivery of specialist equipment into highly technical environments.
You'll work across facility design, procurement, installation and commissioning, managing interfaces between building fit-out and equipment installation to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and on budget.
What You'll Be Working On
- Translating process requirements into facility layouts, room concepts and technical specifications for quantum laboratories, nanofabrication cleanrooms and engineering workshops
- Specifying and procuring specialist equipment, managing RFQ/RFI processes and coordinating suppliers through delivery
- Managing critical interfaces between building infrastructure and process equipment, mitigating design clashes and operational risks
- Coordinating equipment-specific utilities including power, cooling, specialty gases and data connections to support successful installation and operation
- Leading installation activities on-site, managing contractors, reviewing RAMS and ensuring compliance with project schedules and quality standards
- Monitoring project budgets, forecasting costs, reporting progress and proactively managing project risks
- Driving safe delivery through CDM compliance, safety reviews, equipment interlocks and continuous improvement initiatives

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
