🔍 Role Summary

As an Equipment Technician, you will provide technical support for wafer fabrication and epitaxy equipment, working on a continental shift pattern.

Key Focus Areas

  • Fault diagnosis, repairs, and optimisation of semiconductor process tools, including vacuum, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, and RF systems.
  • Equipment handling hazardous gas and chemicals in strict compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • A hands-on, high-precision engineering role, ideal for candidates with experience in complex electro-mechanical systems (e.g., defence, aerospace, or manufacturing).

📋 Key Responsibilities

  • Minimise tool downtime by providing a rapid first-line engineering response to production issues.
  • Perform repairs, fault diagnosis, and preventative maintenance on semiconductor processing equipment, including:
    • Lithography, etch, PVD, PECVD, and MOVPE reactor systems.
  • Manage chemical and specialty gas supply systems compliantly, ensuring safety, statutory, and environmental compliance.
  • Support maintenance of gas delivery, exhaust, and abatement systems for epitaxy and PECVD tools.
  • Maintain a spare parts inventory to minimise downtime and ensure critical component availability.
  • Implement and support preventative maintenance strategies to maximise OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and uptime.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Kaizen, 6S, 8D) and maintain accurate documentation of actions.
  • Participate in production and planning meetings to report on equipment performance.
  • Support site emergency response by serving as part of the Site Emergency Response Team.
  • Operate a fork-lift truck (training provided).

🎓 Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship, HNC, HND, or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • OR a minimum of 5 years’ directly relevant experience in complex electro-mechanical system maintenance.

🔥 Preferred Backgrounds & Transferable Skills

We welcome applications from engineers with experience in high-reliability environments including:

  • Aerospace, defence, automotive manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, oil & gas, and power generation.
  • UK Armed Forces technical trades (desirable). Direct semiconductor experience is advantageous but not essential.

🛠️ Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in high-tech, precision-engineering environments.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic ability across electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to work safely with hazardous gases and chemicals.
  • Can follow detailed documented procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Competency in documentation (procedures, risk assessments, method statements).
  • Effective time management & organisational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Team-oriented with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation in a safety-critical environment.

Desirable:

  • Prior experience in a semiconductor or cleanroom manufacturing environment.

⚠️ Other Requirements

  • Working hours: 40.3 hours/week on a continental shift pattern (2 days in, 2 nights in, 4 days off), with 12-hour shifts including weekends and bank holidays.
  • Work conducted within a cleanroom environment (cleanroom garments provided).
  • Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) use required—must pass medical & respirator face-fit testing.
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK.
  • Located in rural Northamptonshire—valid UK driving licence + access to own transport are essential.
