Equity Research Analyst

Investment Analyst – Global Smaller Companies (London-based)

About Highclere International Investors LLP Highclere International Investors LLP is an independent, employee-owned investment manager specialising in active global smaller companies investing (excluding the US). Established in 2006 and headquartered in London, the firm manages a single global strategy for institutional clients.

Currently undergoing a period of transition and renewal, Highclere is focused on rebuilding, growing, and expanding its business while staying true to its core philosophy of rigorous, fundamental, bottom-up investing.


About the Role

Highclere is looking to add an Investment Analyst to its investment team. The ideal candidate will:

  • Take ownership of a defined area of coverage and become the internal expert on assigned companies.
  • Contribute to idea generation, company research, investment debates, and portfolio decision-making.
  • Work in-office in London (5 days per week) with occasional travel to Europe and Asia for primary research and management meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coverage & Research

    • Own a specified sector/region and source, research, and monitor investment opportunities.
    • Screen a 6,000+ company universe to identify attractive investment candidates.
    • Conduct business model analysis via primary research, assessing sustainable profitability and long-term value creation.
  • Company Engagement & Financial Analysis

    • Meet with management teams to gather insights.
    • Develop, articulate, and defend investment views on business quality, growth prospects, and valuation.
    • Write concise, well-argued research notes for the team.
    • Build financial models to analyse historical performance, key drivers, and future forecasts.
  • Valuation & Portfolio Action

    • Evaluate valuation to determine investment timing and opportunities.
    • Participate in portfolio discussions, including position sizing and buy/sell decisions.

  • Experience:
    • At least two years’ experience in investment research (preferred).
  • Mindset & Attitude:
    • Strong curiosity about how businesses operate and what differentiates strong from weak companies.
    • First-principles approach—question assumptions, test evidence, and build an independent view.
    • Critical thinking and sound investment judgement.
    • Clear communication (written and verbal).
    • Confidence to defend views while retaining humility to adapt when evidence evolves.
    • Comfort with ambiguity and making decisions with limited information.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong accounting and financial statement understanding.
    • Advanced Excel proficiency (critical).
    • Familiarity with financial databases and research tools (advantageous).
  • Desirables:
    • Progress toward or completion of a relevant professional qualification (e.g., CFA).
    • Passion for contributing to a small, high-ambition team during a pivotal firm phase.
