ESOL Lecturer

ESOL Lecturer

Department: ESOL | Salary: £34,789 to £43,139 per year

Job Type: Full-time, permanent, 35 hours per week

A dynamic opportunity exists within the ESOL department. The ideal candidate will drive excellence in teaching and learning through innovation and outstanding practice. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment across a range of levels (pre-entry/beginners to Level 2), catering to students aged 16-18 and 19+.
  • Designing effective, engaging, and stimulating learning opportunities.
  • Monitoring and providing supportive feedback on individual student progress to help achieve growth.
  • Motivating and supervising students to attain academic and personal goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fostering the College’s mission and values in all educational aspects.
  • Supporting the curriculum’s strategic objectives and participating in annual reviews.
  • Staying updated with national developments and-upgrading professional knowledge annually.
  • Planning and delivering high-quality lessons, engaging teaching techniques, and ensuring a supportive learning environment.
  • Managing student behaviour, communication, and demonstating respectful standards while challenging discrimination.
  • Setting, marking, and recording assessments in line with College policies.
  • Tracking student progress and attendance using agreed systems and procedures.
Collaboration & Leadership
  • Partnering with leadership to develop programmes that promote high standards and curriculum value-add.
  • Administering curriculum support for teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Collaborating with subject specialists to improve English and Maths integration in teaching.
  • Reviewing and pursuing professional development opportunities to enhance practice.
  • Engaging with parents/carers and students during parent evenings, welcome events, and open days.
  • Ensuring all students adhere to College policies.

Holistic Support & Additional Duties
  • Prioritising health and safety, adhering to GDPR, and supporting key College activities like enrolment and examinations.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree-level education (any subject).
  • Valid ESOL or EFL teaching qualification.
  • Proven ESOL teaching experience.
  • Computer literacy with College applications.
  • Curriculum planning, development, and delivery expertise.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current issues across the ESOL cohort.
  • A commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
  • Minimum Level 2 literacy and numeracy (willingness to complete if below).
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, team contribution, and high personal standards.

Desirable Qualities

  • Experience in resource-based learning.
  • An ICT qualification.
  • Membership of a professional teaching body.
  • Ability to assess needs and develop tailored curricula (including Technology-Enhanced Learning).
  • A thorough understanding of employer-driven curriculum design to support training needs.
