This is an exciting opportunity to step into a pivotal role within the Single Corporate Service, supporting both Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.
As early adopters of the highly anticipated NHS workforce solution, our teams are at the forefront of changing how the NHS supports its people. This role sits right at the heart of that transformation. You will take charge of the day-to-day coordination of our current Electronic Staff Record (ESR) platform, keeping it running smoothly and securely, while directly helping us bridge the gap into the future of NHS workforce technology.
Key Responsibilities
- System Maintenance & Coordination: Oversee the daily operation of ESR, execute User Notice updates, and manage the registration, alteration, and removal of user access rights in line with approved security policies.
- Data Integrity & Hierarchies: Create, document, and update organisational, costing, and people hierarchies within ESR. Ensure all information is processed with a high degree of detail and accuracy.
- System Integration: Work directly with the Rostering and Talent Acquisition teams to ensure seamless data flows and workflow alignment between recruitment systems, e-rostering, and ESR.
- User Support & Technical Guidance: Respond to a variety of operational queries from managers and employees regarding ESR Self-Service and Smartcard access. Provide practical training and support to improve system utility across both trusts.
- National & Regional Liaison: Attend regional and national meetings to monitor functionality developments and escalate operational issues to the national central team when required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
