Job Details

  • Salary: £25,704 to £27,316 per annum
  • Location: Covering Cardiff and Barry, South Wales
  • Hours: Permanent, Full Time, finishing 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Monday to Friday)
  • Working Week: 35-hour, structured schedule

About the Role

This position is ideal for professionals with a passion for working with young people aged 16–19 within the work-based learning industry. As an Essential Skills Tutor, you will play a crucial role in:

  • Training and assessing learners in Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital Literacy.
  • Ensuring learners progress towards Level 2 qualifications in these areas.
  • Supporting young adults through wellbeing and motivational initiatives such as GoForIt days to develop confidence and teamwork skills.

Core Responsibilities

You will be expected to:

  • Deliver literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy support in workshops or one-to-one sessions.
  • Register, arrange, conduct, and invigilate controlled assessment tasks for learners.
  • Monitor and ensure the timely completion and accuracy of all learner performances.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of assessments – both physical and electronic – and previous DBS records.
  • Develop learning resources to support delivery requirements.
  • Conduct internal quality checks of assessments to ensure compliance with standards and deadlines.
  • Travelling across a regional area to visit learners at training centres.
  • Collaboratively contribute to performance targets and organisational objectives.
  • Foster positive relationships with learners and colleagues to create a supportive learning environment.

Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven experience in delivering Essential Skills Qualifications up to Level 2.
  • A Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Independency in travelling/traveling to learners and centres (vehicle requirements).

Desirable:

  • Qualified Assessor status or commitment to working towards qualification.
  • City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Adults and Young People in Essential Skills.
  • Experience with Essential Skills L3 Practitioner Programme providing practical application and teaching experience.
