Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council

Title: Estate Caretaker – 2.5 Posts Available (2 Full-Time and 1 Job Share)

Service Area: Estate Services

Grade: Band C - £25,583 to £26,824 per annum plus enhancements

Location: Various locations across Sandwell

Hours: 37 hours per week, including contractual weekend and bank holiday working

We're looking for Estate Caretakers to help maintain our high and low-rise flats across the borough. This is an active and varied role where no two days are the same as you'll spend your time working to maintain the safety and appearance of our residential blocks including removing graffiti and cleaning communal areas.

This role would be suited to someone who enjoys practical work with a willingness to learn. Previous caretaking experience is useful, but our team have come from a range of roles such as cleaners and builders as full training is provided.

What you'll be doing

  • Carrying out litter picking and weed control
  • Completing fire safety and environmental inspections
  • Undertaking basic handyperson repairs, including the use of power tools
  • Removing bulky and hazardous items, and keeping bin areas clean

What we're looking for

  • A practical and proactive approach to work
  • Good communication skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A willingness to work weekends and bank holidays as part of the role
  • A full current clean drivers licence is essential
