We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Estates & Facilities Management (EFM) Trainer to join our Training & Development Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing our workforce by equipping staff with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to deliver safe, effective and high-quality services across North Bristol NHS Trust.

Working closely with the EFM Training & Development Manager, you will deliver a range of practical and classroom-based training programmes, support new starters through their induction journey, assess workplace competence, and contribute to the ongoing development of our Estates and Facilities workforce.

The Estates and Facilities Management team plays a vital role in supporting patient care by maintaining clean, safe and welcoming environments for patients, visitors and staff. As a trainer, you will help ensure our workforce is equipped to deliver services to the highest standards.

Main Duties of the Job

  • To develop the EFM workforce by equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and competence necessary to deliver a safe and effective service.
  • To contribute to the Learning & Development strategy under the guidance of the EFM Training & Development Manager.
  • To provide classroom and practical training in workplace skills and associated duties, as directed by the EFM Training & Development Manager.
  • To conduct follow-up observations for new and existing staff, ensuring they demonstrate competency to work in accordance with the correct procedures as trained.
  • To support the EFM Training & Development Manager in their full range of duties, including the delivery of cleaning/domestic skills, food safety, NHS mandatory training, and "Welcome to EFM" inductions for new staff.

  • Assist in developing and delivering effective work skills training to groups of staff with varying abilities. This includes cleaning skills, mandatory skills, catering support, and "Welcome to EFM" new staff inductions.
  • Liaise and coordinate effectively with staff members, managers, and other division members to optimise learning opportunities in both the workplace and classroom.
  • Observe new staff members' progress in the workplace after initial training to ensure they can effectively demonstrate and utilise their new skills.
  • Contribute to the identification of training needs through analysis and assist in developing programmes in response.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programmes and contribute to assessing their impact on the service.
  • Provide requested information to staff regarding their training requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all documentation to required standards. Maintain and appropriately use Trust resources, reporting faults and malfunctions when they occur.
  • Stay updated on national and local priorities, policies, procedures, and training guidelines.
  • Handle sensitive information professionally, seeking clarity when necessary.
  • Report any unsafe practices observed.
  • Assist with other aspects of the training department as needed.
  • Report concerns to the EFM Training & Development Manager, identifying issues outside your level of competence.
  • Ensure the training area is prepared and maintained to facilitate learning.
  • Be familiar with Trust Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain respect for privacy, dignity, and confidentiality in all actions.
  • Exhibit professional behaviour, demonstrating excellent customer care and supporting equality, diversity, and inclusion of all learners.
  • Act within the limits of your competence, ensuring actions support the care, protection, and wellbeing of others.
  • Maintain responsibility for identifying your own continuing development needs.
  • Ensure all mandatory training is completed in line with Trust policy and maintain records of progression and achievement.

Person Specification

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Minimum of Level 3 Education and Training Certificate (or equivalent experience)
  • Working knowledge or willingness to develop knowledge of NHS Standards of cleanliness and local Trust cleaning standards/
  • General knowledge of training delivery techniques including the use of presentation equipment.

Desirable criteria

  • Level 4 CIEH Food Safety Certificate.

Work Experience

Essential criteria

  • Basic knowledge of working with staff who have basic skills needs &/or for whom English is not their first language.
  • Evidence of recent learning training and/or facilitation experience.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of training in a variety of settings and group sizes.
  • Experience of educationally supporting learners in the workplace
  • Experience of planning, preparing and delivering workplace training programmes.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Proficient IT skills with confidence using Windows based applications such as Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with experience in planning, prioritising both self and learners
