Responsibilities
The role holder’s responsibilities include overseeing all operational estates management across the Trust’s two sites, with professional oversight for:
- Fire Safety management
- Health & Safety (non-clinical)
- Asbestos management and control
- Water Hygiene (including Legionella and Pseudomonas control)
- Building, Electrical & Mechanical services (including piped medical gas)
- Financial management of building and engineering budgets, including:
- Control of minor works and Service Level Agreement (SLA) contracts
- Management of staff, external consultants, and contractors’ activities
Special Duties
The role requires the post holder to act as one of the following Trust Authorised Persons:
- High Voltage Electricity
- Low Voltage Electricity
- Piped Medical Gases
Additionally, duties include:
- Acting as the Trust Responsible Officer for Legionella Prevention and Control
- Availability to respond to emergencies, including outside normal working hours where necessary
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Estates function to optimise use of owned/leased buildings, plant, and land while delivering customer-focused maintenance services.
- Plan, direct, and control maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to ensure statutory compliance and performance standards for:
- Building services
- Plant
- Equipment
- Structures and fabric
- Manage Estates Department sections, including building and engineering teams.
- Conduct systematic inspections of mechanical, electrical, and related services to identify:
- Maintenance needs
- Replacement requirements
- Items underperforming below design/acceptable levels
- Enforce remedial action for defects during inspections.
- Develop and manage an out-of-hours maintenance and emergency repair service, ensuring:
- Effective ‘on-call’ systems
- Appropriate response times
- Suitable escalation protocols
- Align with the Trust’s major incident/business continuity policies and plans.
