Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust requires a highly motivated, reliable and flexible Estates Officer (M&E) to work as a key member of the Estates Management Team. You will play a proactive role within the team, delivering key objectives to meet both departmental and Trust requirements.
About the Role
The post holder will advise and assist the Estates Managers on all technical matters relating to building maintenance management within their field of expertise and control. They will also provide supervisory leadership to the Maintenance Team and liaise with key Trust departments to ensure maintenance and repair works are delivered smoothly and with little or no effect on patient care services.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising and Assisting: Provide expert advice on technical matters relating to building maintenance.
- Supervision: Provide leadership and supervision to the Maintenance Team.
- Liaison: Work closely with key Trust departments to ensure smooth maintenance and repair works.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with current legislation and Trust Policies and procedures.
- Maintenance Management: Ensure an effective maintenance and breakdown service for engineering services plant and equipment.
- Contract Management: Manage all delegated service contracts.
- Team Supervision: Senior/Overall supervision of all team leaders, technicians, and mechanical craftsperson's.
- Safety Compliance: Operate policies and procedures in respect of Permit-to-Work systems, Hazard Notices, RAMS, Health & Safety, and other statutory responsibilities.
- Authorised Person: Act as Authorised Person for Electrical & Mechanical disciplines such as Water, LV, HVAC, Lifts, etc.
- Maintenance Schemes: Prepare and implement minor schemes of maintenance renewal and replacement and for works of a minor improvement nature as required.
- Emergency Service: Participate in out of hours emergency on-call service.
- Energy Analysis: Analyse potential savings on energy and liaise with the Sustainability Manager.
- Training: Attend training courses as agreed.
- Surveys and Inspections: Carry out site surveys and inspections and prepare drawings and specifications as required.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with HTMs and all statutory regulations in terms of Health & Safety.

- Probationary Period: All new staff will be subject to a probationary period covering the first 6 months in post.
- Travel: Travel between hospital sites may be required.
