Estates Systems & Engineering Manager – Full-Time Opportunity
The Royal Academy of Music Marylebone Road, London (On-site) | 35 hours per week | Permanent Salary: £37,905–£42,000 p.a. The Role: Estates Systems & Engineering Manager
We are seeking an excellent Estates Systems & Engineering Manager to join our Estates Operations team. Part of a dynamic group responsible for maintaining hard and soft facilities management (FM) services, your role will ensure flawless delivery of academic, philanthropic, and commercial operations across all buildings and venues.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Report directly to the Facilities & Maintenance Manager, leading the technical and system-side aspects of estates operations.
- Oversee the design, maintenance, and optimisation of all Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) systems, including:
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Climate Control (HVAC)
- Lighting control
- Energy Management Systems (EMS)
- Security & Life Safety Systems
- Vertical Transportation (lifts, escalators)
- Set and maintain industry standards for system uptime, performance, and emergency response protocols.

Facilities Management (FM) & Maintenance
- Manage Predictive Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programs to minimise downtime and enhance efficiency.
- Coordinate repairs, replacements, and M&E projects to ensure smooth operations and cost-effective contractor resources.
- Be the primary subject matter expert for Business As Usual (BAU) operations, providing strategic advice on lifecycle planning and investments.
Critical Systems & Compliance
- Ensure all estates systems comply with statutory and regulatory requirements (e.g., health & safety, environmental codes).
- Monitor real-time system performance and take action to resolve faults, improve efficiency, and reduce energy consumption.
- Advise on long-term infrastructure investments to support the Academy’s evolving needs (educational, performance, and facility space).
Team Collaboration & Handover
- Engage closely with cross-departmental teams, fostering a customer-service-driven culture tied to the experience of students, staff, and visitors.
- Occasionally engage in weekend shifts and provide critical on-call support where required.
Requirements & Essential Experience

Deep technical expertise in:
- Building & automation systems (CAFM, BMS, HVAC, EMS, lighting, security, life safety)
- Compliance with statutory engineering regulations
- Maintenance contracts and asset management software

Higher Education (HE) or Live Entertainment operational experience:
- Previous experience in a HE or performance venue setting is highly beneficial.
