Senior Estimator (Building Heritage & Restoration)
Location: Bristol Salary: £50,000 – £75,000 + Package Sector: Building Heritage & Restoration
About the Role
Our client is seeking a full-time Estimator/Senior Estimator to join their dynamic Estimating Department, offering a valuable opportunity to deepen expertise in building heritage, conservation, and refurbishment.
The successful candidate will hold a high-grade construction-related qualification (degree, HND, or HNC) and possess 5–10 years’ experience in construction—preferably specialising in building refurbishment, heritage, or restoration of external fabric. Strong knowledge of brickwork, roofing, and first-fix carpentry/joinery is essential.

Responsibilities

Reviewing Tenders:
- Reading and interpreting tender documentation.
- Evaluating the scope of works across various trades.
- Marking up construction drawings and specifications.

Pricing & Enquiries:
- Estimating in-house trades, factoring in labour, plant, and materials.
- Preparing and dispatching subcontractor and supplier enquiries.
- Negotiating costs, timings, and quality assumptions with external partners.

Site Engagement:
- Meeting clients, surveyors, and architects on-site for training, advice, or reviews.
- Conducting on-site assessments to determine project scope.
- Consulting with subcontractors to review their scopes of work, ensuring accuracy in pricing.

Drawings & Documentation:
- Extracting measurements and details from construction drawings.
- Capturing site dimensions and specifications for precise material estimation.
- Preparing bespoke Statements of Work (SoW) and Bill of Quantities (BoQ) for accurate costings.
- Developing tender-stage programmes of work.
- Assisting with quality submissions across tender bids.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Degree, HND, or HNC in a construction-related discipline.
- CSCS Card (or equivalent health & safety accreditation).
- Proven experience in building refurbishment, heritage, or restoration projects.
- Demonstrable expertise in external fabric restoration (e.g., brickwork, roofing systems).
