Department: Estimating Employment Type: Permanent – Full Time Location: Milton Keynes Office
Description
We’re looking for an ambitious Estimator to join our Milton Keynes team, working on major, high-profile civils and infrastructure projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in securing exciting work and shaping projects from the earliest stages.
As an Estimator, you’ll be at the heart of our pre-construction team, developing accurate and competitive tenders while collaborating closely with operational and commercial teams.
What You Will Be Doing
- Develop detailed budgets from first principles, including labour, materials, plant, and equipment
- Analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure best value
- Review drawings, specifications, programmes, and scope of works
- Carry out accurate measurement and quantity take-offs using tools such as Bluebeam / ACC Take Off
- Produce Bills of Quantities in line with relevant methods of measurement (e.g., SMM7)
- Identify project risks and opportunities, contributing to a risk & opportunity register
- Explore and propose value engineering solutions
- Support and participate in bid negotiations and client meetings
- Produce tender reports for adjudication and take part in review and settlement meetings
- Collaborate with internal teams and actively contribute to knowledge sharing

What You Will Bring
Essential Requirements
- Experience in civils projects such as groundworks, substructure, drainage, roadworks, paving, earthworks, or RC frames
- Strong understanding of estimating principles and methods of measurement (e.g., SMM7)
- Experience using electronic take-off tools (e.g., Bluebeam, ACC or similar)
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with commercial awareness
- Excellent organisation and time management skills
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset

- Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management
- Experience with estimating software such as Candy
