Altrad are currently looking for an experienced Estimator to join the team in Ellesmere Port.

This role will involve taking full ownership of estimates from initial enquiry through to tender submission and project handover, ensuring accurate, transparent, and commercially robust estimates are delivered in line with client requirements and Altrad business processes.

Key Deliverables

  • To take full ownership of estimates from initial enquiry through to tender submission and project handover.
  • To produce accurate and transparent quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications, and other tender documentation.
  • To ensure all estimates, tender documents, and supporting information are recorded and maintained in accordance with company procedures and the Altrad Integrated Management System (AIMS).
  • To liaise with Proposal Administrators, Bid Coordinators, Operational Leads, Site Representatives, Commercial teams, and senior management to ensure timely and accurate estimate delivery.
  • To compile comprehensive tender submissions, ensuring all contractual deadlines and internal governance requirements are met.
  • To develop a strong understanding of commercial terms, conditions, and contract requirements, working closely with Commercial Managers and the Head of Commercial.
  • To analyse estimate performance against actual project outturns and identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy and cost norms.
  • To support the continuous improvement of estimating processes across the UK & Nordics business, enhancing transparency, consistency, and accuracy.
  • To engage with clients to discuss pricing strategies, clarify requirements, and maintain strong working relationships throughout the tendering process.
  • To develop technical expertise in relevant disciplines, becoming a recognised authority in chosen areas of specialism.
  • To ensure all estimating activities are completed to a high standard, meeting both client expectations and Altrad business requirements.
  • To apply a first-principles approach to problem solving by challenging assumptions, breaking complex problems down into their fundamental elements, and developing practical, data-driven solutions that improve estimating accuracy, efficiency, and commercial outcomes.

  • Proven experience working in an estimating role, ideally within an engineering, construction, industrial, or related environment.
  • Experience producing accurate quantity take-offs and estimates from drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
  • Strong understanding of commercial terms, conditions, and contract requirements.
  • Experience working collaboratively with Commercial, Operational, Proposal, Bid, and senior management teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply a first-principles approach to complex estimating challenges.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple estimates and tender submissions to strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication and client relationship management skills.
  • A willingness to develop technical expertise and become a recognised authority in relevant areas of specialism.
  • Experience with estimating systems, cost norms, and analysing project performance against actual outturn costs would be advantageous.
  • Ability to work in accordance with company procedures and the Altrad Integrated Management System (AIMS).
