Swann Engineering Group are looking for an estimator to join their structural team based onsite in Braintree.
The Role
As an Estimator at Swann Engineering Group, you will provide estimates for the costs of a project, products, and services, researching prices of the various components and obtaining estimates and quotes from vendors and contractors, as well as considering time related costs within design, project management, and installation.
You will support the sales team with proposals, tracking costs, and to understand the customer’s specifications to calculate the final budget for the project, product, or service, presenting your recommendations and analysis to the Senior Management team.
Main Duties
- Using technical drawings and specifications to produce concise and effective technical proposals in response to customer requests
- Deliver accurate tenders with commercial aspects in mind, while also working to client requirements
- Research and present different methods of reducing cost through supply chain, method of fabrication, installation, or value engineering
- Maintain the tender product documentation including internal Governance requirements
- Supporting the sales team in attendance in meetings including delivery of technical presentations
- Development of standardised documentation for on-going proposal use
- Attend the monthly contract review meetings
- Support the Sales and Operational department leads to identify and collate project risks
- Consult with internal resources and external partners to build tender cost models
- Consult with department leads to organise tender governance meetings
- Manage all successful tenders with the operational delivery team
- Assessing the risk levels associated with a project
- Visting project sites to gather information
- Engage with our supply chain to provide achievable and value for money solutions to customers requirements
- Continuously improve through feedback and lessons learnt from completed jobs and unsuccessful tenders
- Possess in-depth product knowledge of our product range and be able to identify new product opportunities

What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, or/and mechanical engineering or a degree in estimator field would be desirable
- A methodical approach to work
- Understanding of engineering documents
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Knowledge of CAD Software
- Experience of the structural and architectural steelwork market
- Strong analytic abilities
- Working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and word processing programs
- Ability to coordinate and work independently
- Exquisite math and IT ability with an analytical mindset
- Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities
- Good attention to detail
- Confident in approaching new contracts
- Enthusiastic, initiative-taking and organised individual
- Excellent organisational skills
