Job Description: Estimator

About the Role
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate project costs in a consistent and transparent way. The role ensures construction methods and project circumstances are fully considered to support successful project delivery.
Reports to: Estimating Manager
Works closely with: Senior Estimator and wider Pre-Construction and Commercial teams
Key Responsibilities
- Log all tender documents, addendums, and client correspondence, and issue to relevant team members
- Prepare subcontractor enquiry schedules using input from the tender team and procurement
- Issue subcontract enquiries with scope of works and attendance schedules where required
- Benchmark competition levels against market conditions
- Arrange bills of quantities where required and carry out spot checks on measures and descriptions
- Manage and record delivered materials including concrete, reinforcement, and structural products
- Assist with installation of site facilities such as hoardings and accommodation
- Carry out snagging and de-snagging before handover
- Support safe working practices including reviewing subcontractor safety plans and preparing method statements
- Actively develop own skills and mentor others through knowledge sharing
- Maintain enquiry schedules and chase tender returns
- Raise and resolve tender queries
- Review designs on tenders to identify value savings
- Compile clarifications and estimator notes for file records
- Incorporate late tender changes into submissions
- Support preparation of tender risk and opportunity assessments
- Support the preparation of value engineering schedules
- Issue material enquiries and assess supplier responses

Tendering & Cost Analysis
- Analyse tender package returns and prepare subcontractor analysis schedules for adjudication
- Assess package requirements for fixed price and contingency allowances for tender settlement
- Prepare documents for settlement, presenting clear net costings with identified risks and opportunities
- Complete tender sum analysis including cash flow and forecasts for approval and adjudication
- Attend adjudication meetings and implement amendments as required
- Prepare client pricing documents including forms of tender, contract sum analysis, and preliminaries breakdowns for submission
Essential Qualifications
- Knowledge of estimating practices and use of Conquest or similar software
- Understanding of different procurement routes
- Good knowledge of NEC contracts
- Ideally 5 years site-based experience
- Up-to-date knowledge of construction processes, materials, and costs
Desirable Skills
- Numerical and analytical ability with attention to detail
- Ability to prepare quantities in line with standard methods of measurement
- Effective time management and ability to work to deadlines under pressure

Essential Requirements
- Degree qualified in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
- Valid CSCS card
Desirable Requirements
- Professional membership or working towards membership of a relevant body
- Ongoing professional development in estimating, pre-construction, or commercial management
