Who We Are

Steelway are a leading steel fabrication company specialising in Metalwork and secondary steelwork. Our projects focus heavily on galvanised gantries, access staircases, platforms within the water industry. We pride ourselves on delivering precision, safety and excellent value to our commercial and natural industrial clients.


About The Role

We are seeking an accurate and detail-orientated estimator and a more experienced senior estimator to join our commercial team.

Reporting to the Chief Estimator and the Commercial Director, you will analyse technical drawings, calculate material and labour costs and prepare competitive tenders for secondary steel projects. Due to increased investment within the water industry this role is vital for keeping up with demand for pricing, securing new contracts and maintaining our healthy project pipeline.


Hours

  • Monday – Thursday 08:30– 16:45
  • Friday, 08:30-15:30

(37.5 hours per week, site based with occasional visits to other sites)

Key Responsibilities

  • Tender Preparation: Review incoming tender packages, specifications, and engineering drawings. When needed, liaising with clients to get a full understanding of what’s required and when.
  • Material Take-Offs: Quantify steel, fixings, gratings and bought-in components accurately. Inputting data into estimating software.
  • Quotations: Producing clear and accurate quotations to send to the client. Showing manufacturing costs and installation costs.
  • CRM: Log quotations Using the inhouse CRM system to log quotations to enable tracking and following up.
  • Risk Analysis: Identify potential manufacturing or installation risks during the tender stage and factor them into pricing.
  • Client Liaison: Clarify project scopes with clients, to resolve technical queries if required and following up after the quotation is submitted.
  • Handover: Passing over successful bids to the design team and project management teams for seamless execution.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience within the steel industry is essential, with a minimum 3-5 years of estimating experience for the Senior Estimator role.
  • Strong experience estimating secondary steel, specifically platforms and staircases.
  • An Understanding of steel fabrication would be an advantage.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings accurately.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Training will be given using estimating software and CRM System.
  • Must have strong communication skills, to discuss project requirements with clients on the phone or teams’ meetings and to liaise with other departments.
