ETRM IT Systems Analyst

IT Systems Analyst – Commodities & Shipping Environment

An exciting opportunity to support and enhance critical trading, risk management, and voyage management platforms within a fast-paced commodities and shipping environment.

This role combines technical systems expertise with business-facing analysis, acting as the bridge between operational users and technology teams. The successful candidate will:

  • Support business-critical applications
  • Drive process improvements
  • Develop integrations and reporting solutions
  • Ensure systems meet evolving operational needs

Key Responsibilities

Application Support

  • Provide 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-line support for trading, voyage management, and business applications.
  • Investigate, prioritise, and resolve incidents, service requests, and change requests through completion.
  • Monitor application performance, system health, and data integrity, proactively identifying issues before they impact users.
  • Support users across test and production environments, ensuring continuity of day-to-day operations.
  • Test, deploy, and document system fixes, patches, and enhancements.

Systems Development & Integration

  • Develop and maintain Python scripts to automate operational processes, reporting, and data reconciliation.
  • Write and optimise SQL queries and stored procedures for data extraction, transformation, and validation.
  • Build and maintain integrations between trading, voyage management, finance, and other business systems.
  • Develop reports and dashboards using SQL and Power BI to support operational and commercial decision-making.
  • Maintain and improve data pipelines into centralised reporting and data warehouse environments, ensuring data quality and consistency.

Business Analysis & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a key liaison between business users and technology teams, translating business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Analyse workflows, processes, and system usage to identify automation opportunities and efficiencies.
  • Participate in system enhancement projects, upgrades, and vendor engagements.
  • Produce high-quality documentation, including functional specifications, test plans, user guides, and knowledge articles.
  • Deliver training and support sessions for users across various business functions.

Governance & Controls

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation for systems and support processes.
  • Support audit and compliance activities via system records, access logs, and change documentation.
  • Adhere to IT governance, risk management, and change control processes.
  • Identify and escalate risks, issues, and control weaknesses where appropriate.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a relevant technical discipline.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in IT Systems Analyst, Application Support Analyst, or similar roles.
  • Experience supporting ETRM, CTRM, voyage management, logistics, or other business-critical operational platforms.
  • Knowledge of commodity trading, energy trading, shipping, or logistics environments is highly advantageous.
  • Strong experience with SQL (MSSQL preferred), including reporting, ETL processes, and stored procedures.
  • Experience developing scripts and automations using Python or similar technologies.
  • Experience with Power BI and advanced Excel reporting.
  • Knowledge of APIs, system integrations, and data exchange methodologies.
  • Beneficial: Exposure to Azure services (Data Factory, Logic Apps).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
