Evening and Weekend Care Assistant
Company DescriptionAt Home Instead, we don't just provide care; we provide companionship and build lasting relationships. We are looking for kind-hearted individuals to join our team specifically during the evening and weekends - the times when our clients often value support and connection the most. As an Evening and Weekend Care Assistant, you will benefit from unrushed visits that are a minimum of one hour. You have the time to sit and have a cup of tea, hear a story from the past, and truly get to know the person you are supporting. We match our Care Assistants to clients based on shared interests and hobbies, ensuring your work feels less like a job and more like visiting a friend. We are proud to have recently been awarded 5-Star Employer status from WorkBuzz, based on the views of our wonderful Care Assistants and clients! Job DescriptionYour role will be varied and centred entirely around the needs and personality of your clients. During evening and weekend visits, this typically includes: Evening routines: Supporting clients to wind down at the end of the day, including preparing evening meals, assisting with medication reminders and helping with bedtime routines (dressing and personal care) with dignity and respect. Companionship: Combatting evening or weekend loneliness by sharing hobbies, watching a favourite show together, or simply providing a friendly face. Weekend activities: Helping clients stay active in their community, whether it's a trip to a local garden centre, attending a group or visiting family and friends. Home support: Assisting with light housekeeping and ensuring the home is safe and comfortable for the night or day ahead. Independence advocacy: Encouraging clients to continue doing things they love, maintaining their independence in the home they cherish. QualificationsWe hire for attitude and heart rather than just a CV. You are a great fit if: You care deeply: You have a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of older people. You are reliable: Our clients rely on your consistent presence, especially during evenings and weekends when their families aren't available. You are a great communicator: You enjoy listening and can build rapport with people from all walks of life. No experience? No problem: We provide award-winning, industry-leading training. We believe that if you have the right heart, we can teach you the rest. Applicants require a full UK driving license and reliable access to a vehicle to allow them to travel between clients and support clients out into the local community. Additional InformationWe believe that to care for our clients, we must first care for you. Our benefits include: Competitive pay: We value the vital work you do. Flexible hours: Evening and weekend visits are perfect for fitting around weekday commitments, family plans or other roles. Award-winning training: Access to City & Guilds assured training, including specialist modules in Dementia and End of Life Care. A supportive family: You are part of a team that values your well-being with access to an Employee Assistance Programme and a local team that is always there for you, 24/7. Career progression: Opportunities to gain recognised qualifications and grow within the company. Relationship-led care: The satisfaction of knowing you are changing the face of ageing through meaningful, unhurried 1-on-1 support. If you have a big heart and want to spend your evenings and weekends doing something truly rewarding, we would love to hear from you. Apply today to become an Evening and Weekend Care Assistant and help us change the face of ageing, one relationship at a time. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
