British Transport Police (BTP) is the national police force for the rail network throughout Great Britain. We are the ‘Guardians of the Railway,’ putting passenger safety at the heart of what we do. Our values are simply: We Care, We Do the Right Thing, We Strive to Be Better Every Day, We Are One BTP, and We Are Proud to Protect. Join us and help create an environment where we can all be our best every day.
The Opportunity
As an Event Planner with BTP, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality planning and coordination for football and Level 2 events across the Force. Working closely with Event Commanders, operational colleagues and industry partners, you will ensure events are planned and delivered safely, effectively and in line with corporate standards. You will also provide real-time support to senior command teams during planned events and emerging incidents, helping to protect the railway network and those who use it.
What You'll Be Doing
- Liaise with Event Commanders and key stakeholders before, during and after events to identify requirements, coordinate planning activity and support event debriefs.
- Prepare and coordinate event plans, Operational Orders and associated documentation for football and Level 2 events, ensuring all plans are accurate, comprehensive and aligned to corporate standards.
- Develop contingency arrangements, maintain decision logs and ensure plans remain responsive to changing intelligence, operational requirements and resource availability.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners, providing real-time support to Gold, Silver and Bronze Commanders during events and incidents where required.
- Represent the organisation at external Safety Advisory Group (SAG) and planning meetings, working collaboratively with partner agencies and stakeholders. Following consultation with senior leadership, make informed decisions on behalf of the organisation and attend meetings in person where required.
- Represent the organisation as the British Transport Police liaison within the Event Control Room for major events, ensuring effective communication with command and coordination with key stakeholders.
- Refer to the Football and Event Planning Manual of Guidance document to assist in the planning process.
- Assist in the coordination of welfare and accommodation arrangements for both planned and spontaneous events, ensuring the appropriate support is in place to meet operational requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
