Exciting Paid Internship Opportunity — Assistant to the Managing Director

Assistant to the Managing Director (Paid Internship – 10-12 Month Contract)

We are seeking a motivated, organised, and friendly individual to join our multi-faceted business, Cranborne Garden Centre, as a paid assistant to the Managing Director. This 10-12 month internship (ideally starting September 2026, with position flexibility) is ideal for recent university graduates or pre-university school leavers looking to develop transferable professional skills across retail, hospitality, events, and administration.


Details of the Role

This role involves assisting the Managing Director with a range of business and practical tasks, including:

  • Retail buying and merchandising
  • Administration and data analysis
  • Hospitality and event management
  • Public relations (PR) and marketing
  • General day-to-day operations across all company functions

Essential Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Educated to A-Level (minimum) or equivalent
  • Strong organisational skills with close attention to detail
  • Adaptability—able to work independently or as part of a friendly team (hands-on practical tasks included)
  • Self-motivated, quick to show initiative, and capable of multitasking in a dynamic environment
  • Friendly, professional manner with a good sense of humour
  • Valid UK driving licence (essential for commuting—no public transport available in Cranborne village)

Desirable (but not essential) Skills

  • Experience in retail or hospitality (advantageous)
  • Creative flair
  • Knowledge of social media platforms

Based in Cranborne Manor’s historic walled garden, Cranborne Garden Centre has operated for over 30 years. Acquired by our female-led Managing Director in 2014, the business today includes:
