Temple University's Center City Campus is searching for an Executive Director!

Temple University Center City is an academic and community-facing campus located in the heart of Center City Philadelphia. It serves as a hub for:

  • Undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Continuing education and corporate training
  • Public events and community engagement
  • Vibrant learning, professional development, and civic partnership initiatives

Surrounded by corporate headquarters, arts organizations, nonprofits, and government offices, the campus is transforming into a dynamic space with relocation to 211 S. Broad St. (anticipated opening: Fall 2027).


Position Summary

The Executive Director (Director) provides strategic and operational leadership for Temple University Center City as the senior campus administrator, responsible for:

  • Advancing the campus as a vibrant hub for:
    • Teaching, learning, and research
    • Professional development
    • Creative activities and civic engagement
    • Community partnerships
  • Overseeing campus operations, including:
    • Facilities coordination
    • Space utilization and scheduling
    • Administrative functions
    • Security, safety, and accessibility
  • Leading a facility relocation (repositioning from 1515 Market St. to 211 S. Broad St.)
  • Fostering collaboration between:
    • University leadership
    • Faculty and deans
    • External partners (arts, nonprofits, government, corporate sectors)
  • Managing innovative programming, events, and partnerships
  • Supporting the mission of University College across all campuses

The Director must lead through influence, relationship-building, and creativity, navigating decentralized stakeholders while ensuring quality operations and a welcoming environment.

** Key Responsibilities**

  • Develop and execute campus relocation plans to ensure a smooth transition by Fall 2027.
  • Align with university strategic priorities, ensuring alignment across all regional campuses (Ambler, Harrisburg, Center City).
  • Oversee facilities management, space allocation, accessibility, and operational logistics.
  • Manage public-facing programs, partnerships, and community events, including:
    • Collaborations with arts/cultural institutions
    • Hosting conferences, workshops, and special events
  • Coordinate corporate training, continuing education, and certificate programs.
  • Act as a major stakeholder in placing Temple as a highly visible downtown hub, enhancing visibility in the region.
  • Represent the campus at community gatherings, corporate events, city council meetings, etc.
  • Safeguard financial, operational, and reputational sustainability through cost management, vendor coordination, and grant/program development.
  • Deploy a customer-service-first approach, balancing academic mission with operational excellence.

Salary

$85,100 – $110,000 (range subject to HR review based on factors such as experience, education, equity considerations, and budget).

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Public administration
    • Business administration
    • Arts administration
    • Higher education administration
    • Nonprofit management
    • Or related field
  • 7+ years progressively relevant experience managing:
    • Operations, facilities, programs, partnerships, or administrative functions in:
      • Higher education
      • Nonprofits
      • Cultural/corporate/civic environments
    • Major organizational transformation projects, relocations, or strategic initiatives

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience in higher education, arts, or nonprofit sectors
  • Strong networking across:
    • Arts/cultural institutions
    • Government & philanthropy
    • Corporate/business leaders
  • Experience leading university campuses, centers, or public venues
  • Familiarity with urban partnerships, downtown revitalization, or civic engagement initiatives
  • Support for internal/external fundraising, sponsorships, or program development

  • Strong communication: Written and verbal articulation required for internal constituents and broader audiences.
  • Hours flexibility: Willingness to work evenings, weekends, early mornings when needed.
