Chef Manager | Thomas Franks | Prestigious School in Worth, West Sussex
Contract: Full Time, Permanent Salary: £60,000 per annum Hours: 40 per week, rotating shifts (5 over 7 days) Location: On-site parking available
About the Role
We seek an experienced Chef Manager to lead our catering operation at a prestigious co-educational Roman Catholic boarding and day school in Worth, catering to 800+ pupils and staff daily. This role oversees breakfast, lunch, and supper service, ensuring exceptional dining experiences, financial compliance, and operational excellence across a 7-day-a-week facility.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will handle:

Daily catering & hospitality execution
- Directing the catering team to deliver high-standard food, service, and dining environments.
- Coordinating internal/external events (e.g., hospitality functions).
- Ensuring age-appropriate meals and adherence to dietary needs.

Financial stewardship & reporting
- Managing budget alignment (client-targeted and company-wide).
- Monthly/annual P&L reconciliation and profit tracking.
- Developing/refining offer plans while respecting budgetary constraints.

Team leadership & development
- Mentoring staff to meet performance standards.
- Conducting inductions, reviews, and progression planning.
- Driving employee motivation and fostering a service-oriented culture.

- Client relationships & compliance
- Engaging with members/stakeholders to refine service expectations.
- Upholding all Safety, Health, Fire & Safeguarding policies ( Saudeguarding DBS checks apply).

Essential Requirements
- Sector experience: Proven success in commercial/hospitality catering management (boarding schools/educational environments preferred but not compulsory).
- Certifications:
- City & Guilds 706/1 & 2 cooking qualification (or equivalent).
- Level 3 Food Hygiene & Safety certification (mandatory).
- Leadership skills:
- Hands-on ability to supervise food production & service.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and analytical abilities.
- Educational qualifications:
- Good grasp of verbal/written English (corresponds with role demands for client liaison).
- Software proficiency: Competency with computer software & web tools.
Desired Flexibility
- Capacity to adapt to diverse shifts (7-day rotational schedule).
- Willingness to undertake additional operational tasks as required.
