Role Overview

Few leadership roles offer such remarkable potential to improve the life-chances of hundreds of thousands of children. It’s no exaggeration to say that this role is an opportunity to lead one of the most significant children’s and families portfolios in local government.

Why do we believe this? It’s down to the hard improvement work of the past decade, and the sustained performance of our highly effective and respected Children’s Trust (judged to be Good by Ofsted in 2023). This assurance of high-quality delivery means that we now have the bandwidth to think strategically about the wider determinants of exceptional outcomes for young people. Our elected members have a sophisticated grasp of the structural challenges facing young people, and they’re determined that Birmingham will set a benchmark for excellence.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
