The Evidence Synthesis & Statistics (ESS) capability plays an important role in helping clients evaluate the clinical, humanistic, and economic value of healthcare interventions. The team delivers evidence synthesis, advanced statistical analysis, and strategic evidence planning to support HTA, regulatory, payer, market access, and evolving Joint Clinical Assessment (JCA) decision-making globally. We are seeking an accomplished scientific leader to lead and grow RTI-HS’s ESS capability. This individual will provide strategic, scientific, and operational leadership for evidence synthesis and statistical services while remaining hands-on in the delivery of complex client work.

Location: We offer flexible working arrangements for this position, which can be based in our Manchester office, fully remote within the UK, or from one of our other European office locations in Spain, Sweden, or France.

What You'll Do

The Executive Director, Evidence Synthesis & Statistics (ESS) will provide scientific, strategic, and operational leadership for RTI-HS’s evidence synthesis services. This role combines hands-on technical delivery with capability growth, client development, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-quality, integrated evidence solutions for global clients.

Scientific & Strategic Leadership

  • Lead and grow RTI-HS’s Evidence Synthesis & Statistics capability, establishing a market-leading practice focused on evidence generation, advanced analytics, and decision support
  • Serve as a senior scientific advisor to pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients on evidence synthesis methodologies and evidence generation strategy
  • Provide technical leadership, hands-on methodological input, and quality assurance across a wide range of evidence synthesis activities
  • Lead and directly contribute to complex analytical work, including projects involving Bayesian methods, causal inference, patient-reported outcomes analysis, survival analysis, mixed effects/hierarchical modeling, network meta-analysis, and other indirect treatment comparisons such as matching-adjusted indirect treatment comparisons (MAICs) and simulated treatment comparisons (STCs)
  • Advise on integrated evidence strategies aligning clinical development, HEOR, RWE, market access, and publication objectives
  • Drive innovation in methods, ensuring adoption of new and evolving approaches and continuous improvement in delivery

Business Development & Client Leadership

  • Lead business development activities, including identifying opportunities, developing proposals, supporting client presentations and scientific meetings, and contributing senior scientific insight throughout the sales process
  • Partner with commercial and scientific leaders across RTI-HS to expand the visibility and position of the ESS capability
  • Act as a senior client contact, building long-term relationships and providing strategic and methodological input across engagements
  • Monitor industry trends, HTA, payer, and evolving JCA evidence requirements, and competitive landscape to inform service development

Operational & People Leadership

  • Build, mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing team of evidence synthesis statisticians
  • Oversee project delivery to ensure scientific rigour, client satisfaction and financial performance
  • Lead complex projects and portfolios, ensuring alignment to timelines, budgets, quality standards, and client expectations
  • Ensure appropriate tools, processes, and methodological standards are in place and continuously improved
  • Foster collaboration across HEOR, RWE, Epidemiology, Market Access and Biostatistics to deliver integrated solutions

Thought Leadership & External Engagement

  • Represent RTI-HS through conference presentations, publications, workshops and webinars
  • Build the external scientific profile of the ESS capability through active engagement with the research and HTA community including JCA
  • Contribute to the advancement of evidence synthesis methodologies, promoting innovative approaches that leverage AI, automation, advanced analytics, and other emerging technologies where appropriate
  • Support development of internal best practices, methodological guidance and reusable intellectual capital

What You'll Need

  • Advanced degree (Masters, PhD, DrPH, ScD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent) in epidemiology, health economics, biostatistics, public health, pharmacy, or a related scientific discipline, plus a minimum of 12+ years of relevant experience
  • Significant relevant experience leading evidence synthesis activities within a pharmaceutical company, CRO, consulting organisation, or academic research environment
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary project teams and managing complex client engagements
  • Proven business development experience, including proposal leadership, client relationship management and revenue generation
  • Strong expertise across advanced statistical and evidence synthesis methodologies, including Bayesian approaches, network meta-analysis, other indirect treatment comparisons (e.g. MAIC), survival analysis and health utility analysis (e.g. EQ-5D), and their application within broader evidence generation strategies
  • Familiarity with emerging methods and approaches, such as target trial emulation and evolving evidence synthesis techniques
  • Advanced programming skills in R and/or STATA
  • Strong understanding of global HTA, payer, and evolving JCA evidence requirements, and the role of evidence synthesis across the product lifecycle
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage scientific, commercial and executive audiences
