About the Role
The University of Brighton has committed to Distinctively Brighton 2035, a vision to become the first-choice university for enterprise and equity, delivering transformational impact for its students, staff, and communities.
To achieve this goal, the University has established the Office for Zero Inequities as its dedicated institutional function for eliminating inequities affecting students and staff.
The Executive Director will provide strategic and operational oversight for the Office for Zero Inequities. Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing implementation of the University’s Zero Inequities Transformation Initiative.
- Leading institution-wide efforts to:
- Eliminate differential outcomes between groups.
- Enhance staff and student experiences.
- Embed equity across institutional design and decision-making.
- Establishing the University of Brighton as a national and international exemplar in institutional equity transformation.

- Organisational Change: Drive large-scale equity transformations and structural improvements.
- Influencing Senior Stakeholders: Develop and advocate for evidence-based equity policies.
- Partnership Building: Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance equity goals.
- Measurable Impact: Translate research, evidence, and insights into tangible institutional equity outcomes.

Candidate Requirements
The successful applicant must demonstrate:
- A proven track record of senior leadership in delivering organisational change.
- Expertise in equity and inclusion strategies, with measurable impact.
- Strong stakeholder influence—evidenced by successfully working with senior management teams.
- Deep commitment to institutional transformation and ethical organisational values.
- Proven ability to translate research and data into actionable policy changes.
- Exceptional communication and partnership-building skills.
- Experience in higher education, equality, or social justice sectors is strongly preferred.
Ideal Qualifications
While not mandatory, the following qualifications will strengthen a candidate’s application:
- Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent in areas such as education policy, sociology, social justice, organisational behaviour, or equity studies.
- Relevant experience in a leadership role within higher education or a comparable sector.
