Executive Director, Business Development (Strategic Accounts) – Syneos Health
Are you interested in driving major growth in the biopharmaceutical landscape? Syneos Health is seeking best-in-class business development leaders to lead strategic partnerships with leading pharma clients and expand core-to-mid-market relationships.
If you currently hold a similar role in a Tier 1 CRO, orchestrating multi-million-dollar deals, we'd like to discuss opportunities through our executive partner, TSP.
About the Role
The Executive Director of Business Development (Strategic Accounts) is responsible for orchestrating enterprise-level sales growth globally by:
- Developing long-term client engagement strategies
- Securing high-impact accounts via preferred provider arrangements, negotiated Master Service Agreements (MSAs), and strategic alliances
- Acting as a trusted advisor to client executives, blending deep industry knowledge with cross-functional collaboration
This role demands clinical development, financial acumen, andagnolence in masterpharmaceutical procurement, as you will partner with therapeutic, operations, legal, finance, and delivery teams to build client-centric growth strategies. These strategies will align with Syneos Health’s global commercial objectives.

Core Responsibilities
Strategic Growth & Account Management
- Lead global business development for high-value accounts, driving revenue expansion and strategic partnerships
- Identify, evaluate, and execute enterprise-level opportunities, including preferred provider arrangements, MSAs, and contracts
- Develop multi-year strategic growth plans for key global institutions
- Serve as a strategic advisor and trusted partner to client executives, understanding their business priorities, development pipelines, and partnership expectations
Complex Procurement & Relationship Building
- Navigate global sourcing and procurement organizations to influence decisions and expedite contract agreements
- Foster relationships with mid-tier to executive client stakeholders, including decision-makers and influencers
- Represent Syneos Health at industry events, conferences, and client engagements
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Delivery
- Collaborate with therapeutic teams, operations, delivery, and marketing to co-develop tailored solutions
- Lead RFP responses, proposal writing, and negotiation strategies
- Maintain up-to-date CRM records (Salesforce) for accounts, opportunities, and communications

Market Intelligence & Sales Strategy
- Monitor market dynamics, competitors, and key trends to shape account strategies
- Monitor territory performance and pipeline forecasts for data-driven adjustments
- Drive account expansion strategies, including therapeutic renewals, next-phase opportunities, and pipeline growth
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s in a scientific or related field (Graduate degree a plus)
- 5+ years in strategic sales, global business development, or client management, ideally within CRO/pharma services
- Deep industry expertise in the clinical trial space, including knowledge of pharmaceutical procurement, full-service clinical outsourcing, and drug development lifecycles
- Proven success in negotiating MSAs and leading preferred provider pursuits
- Excellent consultative selling with ability to co-create custom solutions
- Strong presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to travel up to 60% of the time for client engagements
