Housekeeping Department Manager

About the Role

The Housekeeping Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Housekeeping, Recreation/Health Club, and, if applicable, Laundry. Key duties include directing staff to maintain guestroom cleanliness, public spaces, and employee areas while ensuring compliance with policies. The role also focuses on guest/employee satisfaction, operating within budget, and driving continuous improvement.


Responsibilities

Managing Housekeeping Operations

  • Ensures timely guestroom status updates are communicated to the Front Desk.
  • Collaborates with Engineering for guestroom maintenance needs.
  • Supervises the daily cleaning schedule and assigns tasks efficiently.
  • Oversees inventory of supplies to maintain stock levels.
  • Conducts inspections to uphold housekeeping standards and protocols.
  • Assists in supplies ordering (guestroom, cleaning, uniforms).
  • Ensures staff have the necessary supplies, equipment, and attire.

Departmental Budget Management

  • Participates in expense management to achieve budget goals.
  • Aligns departmental operations with financial objectives.
  • Reviews budgets, financial reports, and payroll reports.

Customer Service Excellence

  • Handles guest complaints and issues.
  • Promotes service improvements and guest satisfaction.
  • Empowers team members to deliver exceptional service.

Human Resources Responsibilities

  • Investigates employee incidents/accidents (as needed).
  • Monitors staffing levels to balance service, operations, and costs.
  • Ensures employees understand expectations and policies (disciplinary documentation per SOPs/LSOPs).
  • Provides training and performance feedback, including:
    • Onboarding new room attendants
    • Conducting appraisals
    • Supporting hiring processes
    • Enforcing progressive discipline procedures
  • Leads departmental orientation programs.

Candidate Profile

Education & Experience

Option 1:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • 2 years of experience in housekeeping or a related field.

Option 2:

  • 2-year degree in:
    • Hotel & Restaurant Management
    • Hospitality
    • Business Administration
    • Related major
    • (No prior work experience required)**
