Summary

The Director of Housekeeping is responsible for overseeing daily shift operations, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, maintenancCe in guestrooms, public spaces, and employee areas while promoting guest and employee satisfaction. This role plays a key part in financial responsibility through budget management and ensuring compliance with housekeeping policies and guest service excellence.

Responsibilities

1. Managing Housekeeping Operations

  • Ensure guestroom status updates are communicated promptly to the Front Desk.
  • Coordinate with Engineering teams to address guestroom maintenance efficiently.
  • Develop and implement the cleaning schedule for property-based areas.
  • Assign daily cleaning tasks, including:
    • Assigning rooms ready for check-out or final inspection.
    • Inventorising supplies to prevent shortages.
  • Supervise shift operations, enforcing housekeeping policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Handle ordering guestroom supplies, cleaning agents, and uniforms.
  • Conduct housekeeping inspections for guestrooms and public spaces, ensuring quality and addressing concerns.
  • Equip team members with necessary supplies, equipment, and uniforms for their roles.

2. Managing Departmental Costs

  • Participate in financial planning to meet/ exceed the departmental budget.
  • Analyse budgets, statements, and payroll reports to support cost-effective operations.
  • Align housekeeping strategies with property-wide financial goals.

3. Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service

  • Address and resolve guest complaints promptly and with care.
  • Foster a collaborative culture that prioritises constant service improvements.
  • Encourage employees to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
  • Highlight guest satisfaction within departmental discussions.

4. Human Resources & Team Management

  • Investigate employee accident and safety concerns.
  • Maintain adequate staffing levels to meet service, operational, and financial demands.
  • Ensure team members understand workplace expectations, policies, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Provide employee training and feedback on best practices and behaviour.
  • Support performance appraisals, interviewing, and onboarding processes.
  • Lead new hire orientation to incorporate new staff seamlessly.
  • Apply progressive discipline as required per organisational procedures.

Candidate Profile

Education & Experience

One of the following requirements applies:

  • High School Diploma or GED, paired with 2 years of experience in housekeeping or a related position.
  • 2-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a similar field. No work experience required.

Key Qualities Not Required by Education Alone:

  • Strong leadership skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-solving capabilities, particularly in customer-service disputes and operational challenges.
  • Ability to lead a diverse team while adhering to budgetary constraints.
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement.
